After strolling around in Paris, you will realise that markets are part of the typical Parisian experience. They aren't just for tourists, but even for locals and everyone else. Since there are so many markets in Paris, it can get hard to choose which one to go to. So here are some of the best markets in Paris:



Markets are the best place to go to get some fresh products and special local ingredients.

1. Marché des enfants rouges



This is the oldest market in Paris, which literally translates to 'Market of the red children'. The name derives from a neighbouring orphanage where the children wore red coats. This market always has fresh products and ready to eat food from all over the world. So it is a really good place to try something new. But, be prepared to wait in long queues on a Sunday morning!

2. Marché aux puces de Saint-Ouen


This is a really famous flea market in Paris, which is always extremely crowded. You can find a lot of vintage stuff here from the 1980's or 1960's. There are a lot of restaurants worth trying in this market.

3. Marché d'Aligre



This is one of the most traditional markets in Paris, which looks like it came right out of a movie. Although it is not that famous, only visited by locals. They offer fresh products from all of the french regions. They also have a terrace where you can enjoy a glass of wine after all of your shopping.

4. Rue montorgueil



This is a local street just near Les Halles market. It has the most famous food stores in Paris. The doors and windows here are so attractive that you cannot miss it! They have the oldest bakery in Paris, a cheese shop that offers over 300 varieties of cheese, chocolate stores, etc. You definitely don't want to miss this one!

5. Marché Bastille



This is one of the most famous neighbourhoods in Paris. They have fresh, local fruits and vegetables, cheese and other specialities from all over the world. It is one of the largest markets in Paris which stretches up to Boulevard Richard Lenoir. You should definitely go there if you want to understand the french culture more.
